Client: Redesign of Olio App | Date: Jan 2023 - February 2023| Service: User Experience, UI Design
Overview:
I personally like to help anyone in need, and look out for sustainable resources wherever possible. As a part of the Digital jobs program, I chose this as my project and enjoyed working throughout this process.
Olio is a mobile app that connects people in local communities to share surplus food, reducing waste. Users can list excess food, and others can claim it for free. The app also enables businesses to donate surplus food, promoting sustainability and supporting the community. This is an app which is available for free, both on Android and iPhone.
OLIO connects neighbours with each other and with local businesses so surplus food can be shared, not thrown away. This could be food nearing its sell-by date in local stores, spare home-grown vegetables, bread from your baker, or the groceries in your fridge when you go away.
I used the Double diamond approach while working on this case study.
Discover Phase:
Though this app is popular in the UK, it is also available in Australia and there are many users all throughout the country. I have started with a problem statement initially, which was later changed according to the needs of the users. I have then started working on the research, where I have incorporated techniques like Desktop Research, competitor analysis using SWOT method, google trends, then created a proto persona.
Define Phase:
Now, with all the information I have gathered, I quickly created a Proto persona, survey questions, and user interview script. I used miro to put all my findings in one place.
I then moved on to Affinity mapping, wherein I have organized the data which I received from user interviews, into groups. This has then given me a chance to identify the Key Research insights. I then created a Persona, customer journey map, and then gathered 'How might We' statements, which enabled me to create a user-workshop.
Develop Phase:
I have conducted an Ideation workshop, always thinking about the problem statement and pain points of the persona "Emily". I used Crazy 8`s and Storyboard to help with the ideation and solutions. There were 3 Participants who helped to get Emily, a solution, which she would be happy with.
The solution was to have a local list of charity information available in the app, which is useful when no one picks up the listed product in the app.
Also, Emily can better organise the products in her kitchen using the Digital pantry, where she can list all the products in her kitchen and get reminders in her phone to use them before the expiry date
Deliver Phase:
I then created Low-fidelity wireframes using a pen and paper, in view of the available time to complete this project. I have conducted user-testing by first creating a user-testing questionnaire, and three users took part in it. I have gathered the user testing notes, did affinity mapping of this data, and the low-fidelity wireframe user testing results were the inputs to the Medium-fidelity wireframes, which I created using Figma.
After the second round of user testing of Medium fidelity wireframes, I created high fidelity frames and have conducted user testing again.
